My name is El, I'm 27 and a bride-to-be. I'm also a web developer and in the process of setting up a wedding community website called "Wedding Wishes" at http://www.weddingwishes.co
I'm looking to get the ball rolling and encourage some communication on the forums before I actually launch the site, and as such, I'd love to invite the community to join for free and even receive a couple of freebies I picked up while doing some marketing for work. There's a fantastic ebook worth $40 that you can download for free that claims to save you thousands. Not sure how accurate that is in practice, but I've read it and it is actually really good... and really very free!
Anyway, I'd love to see all of you over at Wedding Wishes
to claim your membership and free goodies. Feel free to add my personal journal or message me if you have any questions or need a hand.
I apologise if some of you got caught in a cross-post or if this isn't an appropriate intro. Mods - please delete this message if you feel it lacks value to the community.
Wonderful to meet you all,

Two Jobs, No Time
But, we have made some progress on the Wedding:
It is looking like our caterer will be Jim Claey of Claey's Catering
. Very cool, down to earth guy. He was so professional and relaxed, but not high pressure at all. His prices seem really reasonable and he is extremely flexible. He doesn't care if we buy are own alcohol, in fact he even waved the corkage fees for the kegs ($50 per Keg) because we have our own jockey box and will be icing the kegs ourselves the night before.
Most other caterers we've interviewed really want to fit you into their mold, but Jim is honestly willing to do it your way. Now we must decide on menus.
On Sunday we went to see The Stolen Sweets
at Muddy Boot
and we hired them to play. By some weird coincidence the band we had originally wanted but could never make contact with, Cana Son
, was playing after them, so we stayed to listen. And then we hired them too.
Yeah, you heard right, we hired two bands.( Read more...Collapse ) Current Mood: chipper

Invitations and Jelly favors
On Sunday FH and I were on our way home from lunch with my Mom when we saw a store called The Paper Zone
on MLK Jr. Blvd. The night before we had been trying to find a way to do 200 invitations with all inserts (RSVP, directions, reception card) for under $200 and we simply weren't finding anything.
So, we decide, "What the hell, we might well see if there's any possibility we can make them," and stop at the Paper Zone.
And I'm so glad we did! The woman there was awesome, and they had at least 40 templates for DIY invites! So, we picked out a template we liked and thought was up to our crafty level, then the shopkeeper (I forgot to get her name) walked through and helped us pick out cardstock and price everything out.
Bottom line, we're going to be able to 200 invites and all the inserts for around $140! I am so excited. I couldn't find an invite online that was similar to what we're doing though.
Picking invites means we also finally decided on colors: Black and White! ( Also, what do people think about jam/jelly for a favor?Collapse ) Current Mood: excited

My First DIY wedding craft
Awhile back I bought The DIY Bride: 40 Fun Projects for Your Ultimate One-of-a-Kind Wedding
and this week I did a trial run of one of the crafts I am considering for the wedding: a cupcake stand.
Since we are considering having cupcakes for the wedding we could really save some money by not renting a cupcake stand from the bakery.
So, using three cake boards, some scrapbook paper, a glue stick, hot glue gun, 2 pint glasses, 4 shot glasses, and my mediocre crafting skills I made ( thisCollapse ) Current Mood: amused
